Fallout Twitch Overlay

By on December 21, 2015

Fallout is a great game, and one I have been playing for years. Fallout 4 is hands-down my favorite installation in the series, and to coincide with its release, I decided to make a quick pip-boy-esque overlay. I borrowed a lot of the feel from the UI aesthetics of Fallout 1 and 2. The nixie-tube-esque fuses were actually a direct copy from the Fallout 2 user interface, but rather than static images, they were animated to flicker and glow. The dials, static interference on the monitors, and other technological elements on the sidebar were animated in After Effects to passively move on long (but repeatable) loops. The ‘startup animation’ features a brief snippet of a Vault Boy animation that was pieced together in rough fashion in Flash where he walks in from the side of the screen.
